Hi ! First of all, thank you for your interest in getting to know us a little more. My name is Inés, and I was born in Barcelona, just like Raimon, my partner in life and adventures. Since I can remember I don’t remember spending too much free time in the city.
At the weekends I was always at the Masia with my uncles in Sant Martí de Sarroca, and I spent the summers in with my father and mother’s towns, Burgos and the Aragonese Pyrenees/Navarre. But right away Raimon and I started traveling the world together.
The time came to leave the big trips to be closer to the parents, who were getting very old. It was in 2012 when I started getting to know Pallars Jussà, very unknown to me until then. I was looking for a town where I could spend the summers without tourist crowds, in a rural environment very similar to the native town of my childhood, and Jussà was so similar, that I immediately made it my own.
Since then, Raimon and I, as well as the rest of the family, have really enjoyed the territory, both the natural spaces and the landscapes, as well as the gastronomy. For us, getting to know the local gastronomy is one of the fundamental experiences of any trip. In fact, we remember many places we’ve been because of what/where we ate. It doesn’t happen to you? But from here to deciding to start this project, there is an important life journey.
For 20 years I worked in a company dedicated to the financial world which allowed me to continue studying various disciplines and travel, but there came a time when I was aware that I did not want to do the same thing for another 20 years, so I left my comfort zone (so they say now) to devote myself to the production of large and small format musical events.
They were years of intense learning and unforgettable experiences. But suddenly COVID-19 came and everything was frozen. With no horizon in sight for a short-term return to the big gigs, it was up to me to catch my breath, push myself and jump back into another professional adventure. It was a project that was already in the drawer, waiting to see the light later, but the pandemic accelerated everything.
The result is the Cal Jou restaurant and multipurpose space proposal, the best excuse to leave the great city of Barcelona behind. From Cal Jou we want to offer traditional cuisine with the best products from Pallares and from all over the peninsula, without ornaments or flourishes, simply based on the best raw materials and a family culinary tradition.
In the old cellar, in addition to being an ideal space for groups, it is intended to program activities such as talks, presentations, and especially very small acoustic concerts.
There is much to discover in Pallars and we want to participate in the promotion of activities so that the territory remains alive, but with the premise of leaving as little footprint as possible. We will explain to you how we intend to achieve this.
I recently heard this reflection: We take care of what we love, and we love what we know.
So from Cal Jou we want to make the territory known so that you come to love it as much as we do and help us preserve it. KNOW – LOVE – PRESERVE. Will you join us?
